INTENDED USE

StraCos™ clips and connecting bars are surgical implants for the supportive treatment of fractures and for the reconstruction of the chest wall. By using StraCos™ implants the chest wall can be re-fixed after surgical reconstruction and fractures can be stabilized.

StraCos™ is used with the following indications:

COSTAL FRACTURES
  • Operative stabilisation by means of osteosynthesis in cases of serial rib fracture (flail chest) > 3 ribs
  • Operative stabilisation by means of osteosynthesis in cases of gross thoracic deformities in connection with serial rib fractures (SRF), even in the absence of instability (e.g. dorsal location)
  • Operative stabilisation by means of osteosynthesis in cases of uncontrollable strong pain, even in cases of single fractures
  • Operative stabilisation by means of osteosynthesis in cases of chronic pain conditions in connection with incomplete ossification following costal fractures (pseudarthroses/ scar neurinomas)
  • Recommendation: Stabilization of each fractured rib
  • Illustration: Example of treatment of serial rib fracture; Single fractures and comminuted fracture with Titanium 3D rib clips

STERNAL FRACTURES
  • Surgical stabilisation in cases of sternal fractures
  • Surgical stabilisation in cases of sternal osteotomy
  • Surgical stabilisation in cases of chronic pain conditions in connection with incomplete ossification following sternal fractures and osteotomies
  • Recommendation: stabilization of each fracture with a matching implant
  • Illustration: Example of treatment of sternal fracture with sternal clip

RECONSTRUCTION AND STABILISATION FOLLOWING PARTIAL LOSS OF THE CHEST WALL
  • In order to reconstruct and stabilise the chest wall, both coverage of the soft tissue defect and stabilisation of the chest wall are required
  • In situations where a fracture is combined with loss of a rib or a rib fragment, the gap resulting from the missing fragment can be bridged by means of an implant bridge and the chest wall can thus be stabilised
  • Recommendation: stabilisation of each fractured rib and each missing costal segment by means of an implant bridge, each bridge consisting of two titanium rib clips and one titanium connecting bar
  • Illustration: Example of lateral stabilisation with bridging (reconstruction) of the missing costal segment
